FAQ

How can I prepare for my appointment? Complete intake paperwork and upload any relevant medical records (including prior assessments) to the patient portal in advance. Check to make sure you have a private location, reliable internet connection, video/audio equipment are in working order, and you have the link for the appointment. If you do not have a link by the day of the appointment, please email us at admin@luminaneuropsyc.com. Have any vision or hearing correction (e.g. contacts, glasses, hearing aids) available for the appointment. Be sure to have enough time set aside for the appointment, try to get a good night sleep, take all typical medications, and be sure to come fed and well-hydrated.

What are the benefits of an assessment? An assessment can assist in determining strengths and weaknesses in your thinking skills, clarify cognitive diagnoses or prognoses, establish a baseline to evaluate change in cognition over time, assist with creating a personalized treatment plan, and provide recommendations for strategies to improve cognition.

What happens during a Cognitive Health Consultation? Navigating a cognitive or neurological diagnosis can be overwhelming. A Cognitive Health Consultation is dedicated time with Dr. Milam to ask questions about a diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment recommendations and to map out next steps. It functions as a care-navigation session, clarifying what a diagnosis means and connecting patients, families, and caregivers with concrete, individualized resources to move forward. Consultations do not include testing.

How does billing and payment work? Lumina Neuropsychological Services is a private pay assessment and therapy provider and is not in-network for insurance companies. This prevents insurance from imposing limitations on the services that can be provided to patients and ensures that the appointment can be tailored to the patient’s needs. Payment will be due prior to the start of the appointment via the patient portal. If you wish to submit to your health insurance for direct reimbursement using your out-of-network benefits, we are happy to provide a Superbill. Please contact your insurance provider to help determine your benefits in advance of your visit. A Good Faith Estimate of service costs is provided in the service costs section below. A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate of how much your care will cost. This estimate does not include any costs incurred due to special circumstances or emergencies, for which you may ask your provider for an updated estimate that includes an estimation of additional expenses. You may contact admin@luminaneuropsyc.com for an updated Good Faith Estimate of pricing for complex or special circumstances.

How much do services cost? Good Faith Estimates are provided below. Assessment: $2,500 per assessment (All necessary appointments are included in the price). Including chart review, clinical interview, neurobehavioral assessment, cognitive and psychological evaluation, scoring, test interpretation, report writing, and feedback Therapy: $200 per hour Typical evidence-based therapies are 8-16 sessions, depending on the presenting concern. Cognitive Health Consultation: $200 per hour

What if I need to reschedule/cancel or miss an appointment? To reschedule or cancel an appointment, go to the schedule on the patient portal to make adjustments at least 48 hours prior to your appointment. A late fee of $50 is assessed 30 minutes after the appointment or in the event of a no-show or cancellation made with less than 48 hours notice. If you are having trouble with the portal, please contact admin@luminaneuropsyc.com regarding scheduling questions.
